How to Obtain

CAGE codes are automatically assigned when a company registers in SAM.gov. For entities outside the United States, NATO CAGE (NCAGE) codes can be requested through the applicable national codification bureau. No separate application is required for domestic companies.

Contracting Relevance

Required on virtually every government contract, purchase order, and delivery document. CAGE codes appear in the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS), contract line items, shipping labels, and technical data packages. Without a valid CAGE code, a company cannot receive contract awards or be listed as a subcontractor.

Requirements

• Active SAM.gov registration
• Valid legal business entity
• U.S. entities receive automatic assignment
• Must be renewed with SAM registration annually
