Description
This project developed stationary direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) using pure methanol as the fuel, integrating complementary institutional expertise on platinum group metals free (PGM-free) cathode catalyst (UB), supported anode catalysts (KSU), electrode fabrication, characterization, and optimization (CMU), and multi-phase mass transfer (KU). The proposed cost-effective prototype will deliver reliable and durable performance using a methanol-tolerant PGM-free cathode and a high-performance anode with low PtRu loading. At the end of the project, the research team is expected to deliver a single cell (50 cm<sup>2</sup>) with ≤3 mg<sub>PGM</sub>/cm<sup>2</sup> that achieves 300 mW/cm<sup>2</sup> using pure methanol..
